Has anybody ever had this email problem?

email problem
justwondering asked:

I have been receiving emails from Yahoo confirming a request to join a group that I have not asked to join. I have played chess and also received single emails from a group, but I have not requested to join these groups. I have a new email address and nobody has my address yet. These email confirmations are from adult-oriented sites that are connected to some larger commercial website that is explicitly adult. I have a young child and this problem is distressing. Any advice or understanding of what the problem might be would be helpful Thanks!

Dave

  1. echinopsis Says:

1: These are spam mails which are often sent randomly without knowing whether they reach a valid mail address. Do not respond to them, because if you do, you are signaling the sender that your account is valid and will receive even more spam in the future.

#2: Did you sign up for any sites recently? If so, better run a spyware check on your system, because some of those sites are known for hijacking your address book.
